The Washington Demons softball team looks to continue its undefeated start to conference play when it travels to Fort Madison tonight, where you can hear the game on KCII.

Washington has a chance to win the series after winning both games in their doubleheader against Fort Madison on Monday. The Demons beat the Bloodhounds 10-3 in the first game before winning the second game 10-2, not only improving their record in the Southeast Conference to 5-0, but also their overall record to 9-3.

Washington’s strong start to the season and No. 8 ranking in Class 3A is thanks to an outstanding team that has one of the top 10 batting averages in the state and averages over nine runs per game.

Sophomore Leighton Salazar leads the Southeast Conference with a .556 average, 25 hits and 20 runs scored, while third-year sophomore Alyvia Anderson leads the Southeast Conference with 14 runs batted in and a .487 hitting average.

Senior Rylee Libe and junior Ella Greiner also have batting averages of .500 or better, while the Demons’ pitching staff was also strong, as freshman Colbie Greiner and juniors Bella Salazar and Halle Cuddeback combined for a 2.24 earned run average.

But despite all the success Washington has had since last season, Demon head coach Ben Obermann tells KCII Sports that one area the team is looking to improve starting in 2023 is finishing off potential sweeps if they come about during conference play.

Washington is seeking its fifth win in the last six meetings with Fort Madison, which has a 5-5 overall record and a 3-2 record in the Southeast Conference so far this season.

The Demons baseball team also takes on the Bloodhounds tonight, looking to avoid a series win and remain winless in the league. You can watch the Washington Demons softball team tonight against Fort Madison on 106.1 FM KCII, as well as via streaming on and the KCII app, starting with the Roder Epoxy Pregame Show at 7 p.m.
