An unidentified body was discovered in Newtown Creek on Sunday morning, the NYPD confirmed to Green dotsThe incident occurred around 7:44 a.m.

Police responded to a 911 call where they discovered an unidentified man unconscious and unresponsive in the water near 2 Blue Slip. NYPD Harbor Units extracted the man from the water. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene and transported him to 54-08 Vernon Boulevard. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death as part of the ongoing investigation.

The address, 54-08 Vernon Boulevard, does not belong to a hospital, but to the Long Island City office of the developer CAC Industries. We were unable to reach CAC Industries for comment.

The death is reminiscent of a similar incident that occurred just a month ago. On May 13, the NYPD arrested another unidentified man near Bushwick Inlet, about a mile from where police spotted the man in Newtown Creek over the weekend. An NYPD spokesperson said Green dots that at this point in time they do not believe that the incidents are related.

Greenpoint residents may also recall that there were two separate incidents last summer in which the bodies of two young men were found in Newtown Creek. Both bodies were found days after the men each attended an event at the Brooklyn Mirage nightclub. Authorities have since determined that both men drowned.
