El Paso, Texas is a HUGE sports town. Just look at how many people go to sporting events in town. Whether it’s baseball, hockey, or football, we cheer for our local team and come in droves. But of course, there are many sports teams that have come and gone. Local sports teams that only WE know and remember.

Here are some professional sports from El Paso that no longer exist.

Today, El Paso is home to the Chihuahuas baseball team, the Rhinos hockey team, and the Locomotive FC soccer team (along with UTEP’s men’s and women’s basketball teams and the UTEP Miners football team). But as the years go by, these are some teams that we DEFINITELY remember but are no longer around. I definitely had a deep personal connection to some of the old hockey and baseball teams that I grew up with, like the Buzzards and the Diablos.

Look for the local teams YOU remember (and maybe cheered for back in the day).

Sports teams that only El Paso will remember

There are many professional sports teams today, but over the years there have been many more. Here are some old baseball, hockey, football and soccer teams that El Paso used to have but that we still remember.

Of course, this is by no means a COMPLETE list of the sports teams that used to exist in El Paso; I’m sure there were many more that aren’t in the history books. And while we may not have a team in EVERY sport, these are without a doubt the teams that definitely have a place in our hearts and will continue to do so.
