Community shaken by shooting of Ogle County police officer at Lost Lake near Dixon | News Milestone: UPMC Washington and UPMC Greene celebrate new membership

ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – The family of a 14-year-old girl who died last week when a tree fell on a car has set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral expenses.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the girl was in the back seat of a car traveling south on Reams Road near Summerlake Boulevard Thursday night when the tree fell on the roof of the vehicle. Severe weather was occurring in the area at the time, but police have not yet confirmed whether storms played a role in the girl’s death.

The GoFundMe campaign identified the teenager as Kayden Avera.

“Kayden brought so much love and joy to the lives of everyone who knew her and we will miss her greatly. As we come to terms with Kayden’s death, her family faces the difficult task of arranging her final farewell,” the post said.

Police said the driver, a 40-year-old woman, and another passenger, a 12-year-old boy, were uninjured in the accident.

The teen’s mother said Kayden was on her way home from soccer practice with her brother when the accident happened. She said Kayden loved boxing and was interested in art.

On June 25th she would have turned 15 years old.
