A semi-trailer carrying nearly 200 pigs overturned and blocked the ramp to Intestate 70 on Tuesday morning.

Ohio State Highway Patrol officers were dispatched at 5:18 a.m. after initial reports of an overturned tractor-trailer on the ramp from State Route 49 to I-70.

“A tracker trailer has tipped over and there are cattle everywhere,” a 911 caller told dispatchers.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 commercial tractor-trailer driven by 43-year-old Derrick Selhorst of Celina was traveling on the I-70 on-ramp north of SR 49.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the semi-trailer overturned on the ramp.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00The tractor-trailer was transporting about 200 pigs from Rossburg to Louisville, Kentucky.

After the accident, the pigs were left loose on the highway. Firefighters on the scene said that most of the pigs would be killed with an injection.

“Oh my God, the poor pigs,” a West Milton man told News Center 7 after learning of the crash.

The semi-trailer driver was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

The ramp from State Route 49 to Interstate 70 was closed as a result of the accident. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it was reopened at about 1:49 p.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Dayton is investigating the accident.
