ASPEN PARK, Colorado – One person was killed when a tractor-trailer overturned on Highway 285 and dumped its load onto five vehicles.

The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said officers were called to a tractor-trailer rollover on Highway 285 at mile marker 232 south of Conifer around 5 p.m.

According to CSP, a semi-trailer truck was traveling southbound when it left the highway, rolled onto its side, and dumped its load of pipe and angle iron onto five other vehicles.

A person in one of the vehicles hit by the load was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, CSP said.

The semi-truck, its load and the other vehicles involved are blocking Highway 285. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), the road is closed between County Road 285E, about five miles south of Aspen Park, and Mile Point 232. According to CSP, the closure will last several hours.

Motorists should use South Elk Creek Road to South Foxton Road as a detour.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
