HIdalgo County Sheriff’s officers shot and killed a man armed with a knife during a domestic dispute Tuesday night, the sheriff said on social media.

Sheriff JE “Eddie” Guerra said officers were called to the disturbance in the 6600 block of West Drive, near Trenton and Tower, near Edinburg, around 6:26 p.m.

There they encountered “a male suspect armed with a knife.”

He was shot by officers because “non-lethal weapons were ineffective.”

“The suspect lunged at the officers and shots were fired,” Guerra said, adding that “the suspect did not survive.”

Details on the suspect’s identity and further information on the domestic call were not yet clear at 9:30 p.m.
