JACKSONTOWN, Ohio (WKEF) – An Ohio Department of Transportation employee was recently killed in a work zone accident in Muskingum County.

ODOT confirmed that Marvin “Marty” Crane died in a construction zone on State Route 60 near Jacksontown, Ohio, on Friday, June 7. ODOT said the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident as an accident. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation Public Employment Risk Reduction Program are also investigating the incident.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating news of the loss of our ODOT team member and friend Marvin “Marty” Crane. He was tragically killed in the line of duty,” said ODOT Director Jack Marchbanks. “His passing leaves a void within us and reminds us of the fragility and preciousness of life.”

Crane has worked for ODOT since 2009. ODOT said he was promoted to project inspector last August.

“Marty embodied excellence every day. His passion for his work was evident in everything he did and his dedication and positive attitude inspired everyone around him. He truly loved his job and approached every task with enthusiasm and integrity,” said Jason Sturgeon, Deputy Director of ODOT District 5.
