A woman and a four-year-old boy are in the hospital after a car accident in Northeast Philadelphia on Monday afternoon.

Police said they were called to a crash at the corner of Frankford and Solly Avenue in the Holmesburg neighborhood at 4:53 p.m.

According to police, a 67-year-old man was driving a red Hyundai northbound on Frankford Avenue when he lost control of his car and struck a white Volkswagen on the driver’s side.

The Volkswagen skidded and its passenger side hit a pillar of an overpass.

The Volkswagen was driven by a 26-year-old woman and a 4-year-old boy was also in the car.

The boy was taken to the hospital where his condition was assessed as critical. Once his condition is stable, he will be flown by helicopter to the children’s hospital, police said.

The Volkswagen was traveling south on Frankford Avenue and had just come to a stop at a traffic light when it was struck.

The woman was also taken to hospital, where her condition stabilized, police said.

The driver of the Hyundai was also taken to hospital and is in critical condition. He is currently in police custody.

At this time, the police have not yet identified any of the people involved and no further information is available.
