A woman shot two people, believed to be her parents, outside a house in Bedford, Massachusetts, on Thursday morning. One of them died and another was critically injured, authorities said.

Jessica Cavallaro, 24, was arrested on charges including murder and assault, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said.

Bedford police were called around 9 a.m. by a person who said another resident of the Washington Street home “had just come back into the house and reported that she had just shot her parents,” Ryan said shortly before noon.

Investigators had not yet confirmed that the two victims of the shooting – a 56-year-old woman who died and a 56-year-old man who was hospitalized with life-threatening gunshot wounds – were Cavallaro’s parents, but they assumed they were.
