Johnson described his injury as “a melon in the bottom of my elbow.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson found himself in a precarious situation while filming his mixed martial arts movie A24. The Smashing MachineIn a video shared on Instagram, Johnson revealed he suffered a serious injury that left his right elbow swollen and possible soft tissue damage.

“Look at that thing there,” Johnson said, pointing to his visibly inflamed elbow, which he compared to having “a melon in the bottom of my elbow.” The actor acknowledged the severity of the injury, explaining, “I got hurt pretty badly in our scenes today and there might be some soft tissue injuries there. That’s a lot of fluid, we’ll see. I have to get it out of there first before I can do an MRI.”

Johnson remained optimistic despite the injury, recalling the advice of his late father, legendary wrestler Rocky Johnson. “He always said, ‘A day without pain is like a day without sunshine, boy,'” Johnson said.

While the extent of the injury and its potential impact on the production schedule are still uncertain, Johnson turned to his followers and asked for recommendations on effective anti-inflammatories. “I’ve been injured in the past, I’ve had injuries before… but if you guys have any advanced advice on some good anti-inflammatories, please let me know,” he said.

In true rock fashion, Johnson couldn’t resist adding a humorous touch to the situation. As he went through various pills and medications, he casually unveiled a bottle of his Teremana Tequila, the alcohol brand he launched in early 2020. Pouring himself a glass of the premium spirit, Johnson said, “I’ve tried them all. This might be my favorite anti-inflammatory.”

Johnson raised his glass to the camera and toasted: “Cheers. And cheers to the damn melons down your arm. … It already feels better.”

The Smashing Machinedirected by Benny Safdie, promises to be one of Johnson’s most dramatic and challenging roles to date. The film follows the life of wrestling and MMA champion Mark Kerr, with Johnson playing the lead role and Emily Blunt playing his wife Dawn Staples in a co-starring role.

In an earlier interview with diversityJohnson expressed his desire to challenge himself creatively and explore the spectrum of human emotions. “I’m at a point in my career where I want to challenge myself in ways I haven’t in the past. I’m at a point in my career where I want to make films that matter, that explore humanity and deal with struggle (and) pain,” he said.
