Daisy Ridley gave an exciting update on her upcoming solo Star Wars film, explaining, among other things, that the film will break with a long-standing tradition.

The last time viewers saw Ridley in the Star Wars timeline was in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, which ended with her character Rey beginning to rebuild the Jedi Order.

Now, five years later, the actress is preparing to reprise the role in a new thrilling story, but this film will actually break with one of the franchise’s long-standing traditions.

In an interview with the SmartLess Podcast, Ridley revealed that she has only agreed to play the role of Rey in one film “for now”, which represents a break with the Star Wars film tradition of releasing an action-packed trilogy centered around a single character.

The actress further explained that she will receive the first pages of the script very soon, adding: “It’s very cool. Different writer, different director. I imagine it will be a very different feeling.”

Since the premiere of A New Hope in 1977, only three films in the franchise have been marketed as solo films: The Clone Wars (2008), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).

A standalone The Mandalorian and Grogu film is also in the works, with an expected release date of May 22, 2026.

Although not much is known about the plot of Rey’s film, rumors suggest that the story will pick up where The Rise of Skywalker left off and follow Rey as she struggles to recruit new Jedi for her temple.

There is currently no confirmation if any of Ridley’s other co-stars from the trilogy will return for her film, but the actress has openly pushed for John Boyega to join her on the journey to a galaxy far, far away.
