A slight stand out from humming-bird.

Last night, Carly Pearce played “Truck on Fire” from their just released fourth studio album. When I heard it for the first time on Friday, it was an instant favorite, and I love hearing it live even more.

Carly appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night to perform the new tune Carly co-wrote with Justin Ebach and Charles Kelley in front of a national audience.

It’s a cheeky, sassy tune in which she calls out a good-for-nothing, cheating man who’s been running around town behind her back, ignorantly believing she won’t find out what he’s up to. And unfortunately for him, Carly was ready to take matters into her own hands…

In the chorus, she admits that she found “a little gas in a little red canister,” and the joke is on him (and his truck):

“Birds spoke on the wire
Reveal your secrets throughout the city
You and her, back road, all night long
Did you really think I wouldn’t find out?

Oh, so I found some gasoline in a little red can
Oh, the last match flies out of my hand
Liar, liar, truck is burning
Flames roll out of your Goodyear tires
Burn, burn, you will learn
You should never have touched her with your lips.”

The lyrics are clever and full of humor, the production and melody are really catchy and “Truck on Fire” is a lot of fun to listen to and sing along to.

And who doesn’t love songs about disgusting men and setting their belongings on fire? A specialty of country music that I particularly appreciate…

I can see this song quickly becoming a fan favorite, and I’ve been listening to it on repeat since Friday. Do yourself a favor and listen to it, as well as their entire album, because in my humble opinion it’s one of the best records released so far in 2024:
